I have been buying from Shepler's for thirty years. This time I ordered the wrong length 501's. Washed them and they come up above my ankles LOL. My fault so I am stuck with them. $50 down the drain :-( The perils of buying on the web. Next time I will go to a real store and try my pants on before I buy.

Please note if you are a fuller figured gent like me (size 42) i wouldnt order a larger size in the waist, otherwise the butt would be too baggy. You can control the direction of shrinkage by wearing them from wet a couple of times. But definately order longer in the length as this will compensate.

I bought 3 pairs of 501 STF, i did several washings with very hot water on one pair. The end result was the waist and insean shrunk to my liking but the seat and thigh are too baggy. Therefore i have to return two pairs and exchange them to one size smaller. On the whole this is the best jeans i should recommend.

you made the pockets shorter. I don't like that. The last batch I bought have a problem with the lowest button buttoning. Other than that I still will wear them as I have for the last 55 years.

I bought 2 pairs of jeans for my husband, who has always worn shrink-to-fit jeans. These aren't anything like the old ones, which you washed in hot water and they shrank just right. After washing (in cold water, as directed), these are oddly stiff and almost shiny and have weird crinkly folds all over them. I told my husband he couldn't wear them off the farm in to town unless they soften up and look normal after more washings (2 so far). Yuck. They didn't shrink as much in length as advertised. We're very disappointed.

The 501's fit perfect after the initial wash. After first wash then launder inside out in cold water to retain the darker color longer. I wear my jeans with boots. I own many pairs of 501's. Remember, these are 'shrink-to-fit'. The jeans are not going to fit right out of the package but must be washed first. We have found that washing them twice prior to wearing makes them more supple as well as better fitting. I've worn Levi 501 jeans for almost 40 years and wouldn't dream of changing!

I've been wearing Levi's shrink to fit 501 jeans for nearly 30 years now! Because they have been the most durable, comfortable and best fitting denim jeans to wear. I've tried the other popular brands and have found that Levi's are simply the best! So I bought my 14 year old son his first pair of "Shrink To Fit 501's" and so far, They fit well, Their comfortable and he likes them! If I had had some warning that I would lose 2 inches off the leg after washing I would have ordered a longer size, the waist is great and they would be ideal except for the leg shrinkage. Please sheplers a shrinkage warning .

501's and a white tee shirt...I grew up in southern Arizona and I LIVED in these. I recall that the label was leather, but maybe not. What I am certain of is that they are everything I remember. And the shrink is STILL 1" in the waist and 2" in the length. They don't feel as heavy as I recall, but they fit the same. I love these...these...Levi's.

501 Levis have been going through an evolution since they quit making them in America. The pockets have gotten shorter, they've become somewhat long-waisted, and they don't last as long. But the last pair I got were made out of a thinner quality of denim, and they just didn't fit right. The waist was so tight, that when you finally got them buttoned the rest of the trousers fit like a flour sack. And thought they were supposed to be shrink-to-fit, they didn't seem to shrink much and they didn't fit. If anybody went back to making real Levis again, they could sell them for a fortune.

I have bought ONLY Levi's 501 since I was 12. I am now 53. I'm serious, no other pants of any kind. Levi's 501 no longer come even close to fitting. The 31" waist is very baggy and falls down, the 30" waist is IMPOSSIBLE to get on. I've bought different combos of length and waist to no avail, just more brand new jeans to give to Goodwill!

Levis 501 Shrink to fit has been my husbands choice for well over 50 years. Loves the fit and style (we are ranchers). Only problem is price - they've gone up ALOT in those years (as has everything#. I wear them at our ranch. They're comfortable and durable and, my wife says, I look "ok" in them [interpret that as a positive comment]. Also, I wear them at my other job at a SF Bay Area university at don't feel at all out of place. If you're relatively slim, the amount of shrinkage might be less than you expect so buying close to your true size might work well. Buying several sizes larger might (for slimmer guys)lead to a looser fit than desireable.

If you are willing to go from stiff material through the shrink process, the STFs will give you the best fit that can be had. I wear them "raw" for a few days, with a length as long as I can get, and they take shape soon. The length shrinks a lot, the waist stays about the same. I highly recommend the 501 Shrink-to-fit. Too bad Levis refuses to market them in the Mid Atlantic, so they are very hard to find. Fortunately, Sheplers has all the sizes.

When I washed the Levi's they came out VERY wrinkled. Ended up washing them 4 times. Could not get the wrinkles out.[...]Remembered that liquid softner helps. (Tip from the 70's).They are fine now.

Use them to work in the yard, crawl under the cars, under the house in the crawl space to spray for bugs. I use them as general work around the house and on weekends pants. They are comfortable and have been that way with no change in the product(thank goodness)in the 25 years I've been wearing them. It is wonderful to have a product that you can rely on. Don't wear them to work since they are so comfortable, wear ill fitting pants to work to stay alert. !

501s are great jeans. I have worn them for over 30 yrs. If you but the shrink to fits, be sure to follow Sheplars instructions on which size to buy. Inseam shrinks 2-3 inches after repeated washings.

The material makes these black jeans not as black as they once were - the weave seems to bring a cheapness to it. And they are stiffer than previous versions. Not sure I'd buy the black again.

I have been buying the original shrink-to-fit 501's for over 30 years. They have held up well despite hard wear. I still have several pair that are pushing 20. The others have succumbed to rips and cuts and acid burns over the years, relegated to work clothes as they are still functional but disreputable looking. So what have they done to the ORIGINAL 501's?? The ones I just got are much thinner fabric and time will tell how they will hold up. Wonder why Levi cut the quality of the fabric? Don't mess with something that works and DON'T call these Originals! Also after the original washing, the stitching pulled out of 3 back pockets. It's a simple fix but one I don't feel should have to be made right out of the box. I'm glad I only ordered 3 pair rather than my usual 6.

These are the famous "Shrink-to-Fit" Levis. Even though the tag now says to wash in cold water I find it best to wash in hot water. I used cold water the first time around which was fine. Hot water removes more excess dye in the fabric, and I find the denim is a bit softer. I was so pleased with my purchase that I turned around and ordered another pair while they were still on sale!!

Iv'e been wearing Levis for 30 years. The quality has gone from excellent to poor. They are are not durable at all now! Two of the last three I ordered blew out the crotchs from doing work around the house. Used to get 6 months out of a pair when I built towers which is brutal dirty work! Especially in Arizona! Now they don't last a month doing nothing. I'm very disappointed!

I have long found that button fly jeans fit better and wear better than do zipper fly jeans. Even though they cost a little more, I find Levi 501's are well worth the additional cost in style, quality, and fit! Sheplers is the only place I've found that has black jeans available - all others seem to only have blue. Now if they only had white available in my size I'd be in heaven...

When brand new they feel a little strange, but wear them in a hot bath amd WOW! They shrink to your shape for a great fit. Let them dry while wearing them if possible, or remove carefully without disturbing the fabric and hang them out on the line to dry in the sunshine. Don't ever use detergent, a washing machine or tumble dryer. Alway wash while wearing them and they will be your friend forever.

Since this is a shrink to wear jean I followed the directions to buy 1" larger waist and 2" larger inseam. After washing, waist is smaller than 34" waist, inseam is correct.

I have worn 501 shrink to fit for over 40 years. They are not the same quality as old (lighter weight) but the fit is good and it is still rugged. Shrank a little less in the leg than I remember but close. All in all a dependable product and quality.

AS INSTRUCTED ON DIRECTIONS: I added 1" according to waist measurement & 2" inseam due to shrinkage in both. Jeans have not shrank at all after numerous washings in hot water. They are HUGE & VERY LONG. Material is not as thick as it used to be 40+ yrs ago.

The 501s I bought were a lot more pricey than I remember paying, but I figured, hey, they're LEVI'S. Nope. The fly button broke the first time I unbuttoned them. The inseams are only available in even sizes, so I have to buy WAY bigger than I need, and hope that hot water and drying will shrink them. Got a hundred bucks? Spend it on 4 or 5 pairs of Wranglers. Levi's are a shadow of their former glory. They just don't make 'em like they used to.

I have worn nothing but Levi 501 Button Fly Shrink-to-Fit jeans for years. They are the "orginal" jeans and in my opinion, still the best. They continue to fade and soften over the years of washing and seem to shape to your body and fit perfectly after awhile. They wear like iron and have never disappointed me. The quality is still there and they simply do what they are supposed to do. Can't ask more from a pair of jeans.

My husband loves the 501 shrink to fit. We normally buy the indigo pair, but I chose the black this time. After a few washes, the jeans soften up and take on his shape. The color fades over time, but we actually like the different stages. A solid, long lasting jean.

I've been wearing Shrink-To-Fit for almost 30 years now. I've tried every style of Levi's and find this one to be the most durable. As they say, you get what you pay for; if you find a cut-rate pair in a discount store, it's not the same. These will last for years, even doing hard labor jobs. Just make sure you follow the fit-guide so they aren't too snug. They continue to shrink slightly after years of washing, too, but they stretch from wear.

I have been wearing Levi's 501 shrink-to-fit daily for all of my life. you can no longer get the correct size since they have upsized from the tag size. A real mess! I have gone through over $500 trying to figure out their new sizing which obviously has been created for fat guys who need to have their ego massaged!

I was excited when I saw the description on the new Levi’s 501 Jeans-Original Shrink-to-Fit. I have been wearing Levi’s jeans since the mid 50’s. That is about 58 years of experience. Over the years I have watched the quality and sturdiness of Levi’s slowly deteriorate until I get irritated every time I see the word Original. Levi has not made a good pair of jeans since the late 60’s when they stopped using the heavy, stiff, shrink to fit, stand them in the corner on their own legs jeans. From the description I thought maybe they were returning to that heavy denim that made their name. These jeans are even lighter weight than their other jeans and if you dragged them behind your car as the ad says all you would have are rags and holes. The material is lightweight but the fit is good. The legs don’t shrink as much and the sizing guide says (That was the old material that went from 36” to 32”). Would I recommend them? Take out Original and all the hype, they are not what you imply but they are not a bad pair of pants.

I purchased 2 prs of 501 shrink to fit jeans for my husband, and one pair had a problem that quality control would’ve caught before shipment. The front belt loop was not attached. An easy fix on my part as I did not want to go through the return hassle, but it did leave a bitter taste about these jeans.

The inside seam used to have dark blue thread in its stitching and a gold in this parallel stitch - this blue one is now absent. Apparently Levi’s has been changing this over time bc originally it had the blue and gold; then they used the gold in both; now the second stitch is eliminated entirely.

I have worn Levi 501s in 33 waist 38 inseam (because they shrink) for over 40 years. At the beginning they were made in the USA. The first batch I bought from Shepler's perhaps seven years ago was made in Guatemala. They were perhaps a bit softer initially but ended up the same as all the others, and in their favor the seams didn't twist as much as the USA ones. This last batch was made in Haiti and is a bit stiffer, more like the original USA ones, shrunk exactly as expected, and again, less seam twist than 40 years ago. I hope to be buying 501s for many more years, probably from Shepler's because they have my size and their prices are always good.

I've wearing 501s since my teens (I'm now closer to 70 than 60). They've always been like a friend to me. I shrink them down with a hot water wash and the dryer set on the highest setting. They come out fitting just right. I wear them just about every day and they really last.

A few weeks ago I was looking for jeans made from a heavier fabric, more like the Levi's back in the 60's. I couldn't find them in any stores. Searched the web and found the shrink-to-fit Levi's here. I ordered the waist 2" big and the length 3" long (38x36 instead of my usual 36x33) as the site advised, with some skepticism but figuring I could always return them. I washed them once in lukewarm water and dried them on cool. Wow, they shrank right down to a near-perfect fit. (They might still be a half-inch too long but that's good for the first time. I sure won't dry them again.)

I have worn Levis for 55+ years. I like the button fly that the 501's have. I am 66 years old now, and I have tried other brands, but come back to 501's. The only Negative thing I have to say is that they do not hold the dark color long. I have heard dry cleaning they last longer, but for me the washer and dryer makes more sense. Positive side is they do fit nice, even at 66 it is important to present the girls a nice butt. I have heard they do look you know! Only thing softer is satin sheets. Give me a nicly pressed long sleeved shirt, nice pressed 501's and a pretty girl on my arm. Geo Striat would be jeolous. Pard I may have misspelled a word or two, but you got the picture.

I've been buying Levi 501 Shrink to fit for 30+ years, my first pair came from Shepler's way back in the 70's.. Not the same 501's, not even close. Thin, limp, when you first get em, not thick and stiff line the old ones. I even checked the tags to make sure they were the same 'model'. Not Shepler's fault, Levi has out sourced it's manufacturing out of the country, has forgotten quality control (last set one had a 1" shorter inseam on one leg)..and what the fabric is all I can say is I'm going to try and find REAL cotton denim jeans, or try to get back down to my 90's size so I can wear the 20 year old one's again.

I've been wearing 501 shrink-to-fits for years, and love them. They last forever. Your "up to 38" inseam is inaccurate in the sense that the longest inseam is in fact 40", although they shrink to perhaps 37 or 38 inches. I'm 6' 6" and weigh 200 lb, and I can find jeans that fit me in only a few styles & from a few manufacturers, and Sheplers is one of the few places that carries them.

I always look forward to getting a new pair of Levi's. It means I can promote my current "good pair" to "working jeans". Levi's are the best work pants I've ever use. I think it's those riveted pockets, strong denim, & button fly (don't need to mess with a zipper). I plan to continue buying "Shrink-to-Fit" 501's because of their strength & versatility; they fit good & they look good too. I like the "Shrink-to-Fit" jeans because they're stronger. When jeans are washed after they're stitched together the seams & fabric shrink into a tighter bond. This means they don't wear out or fray as quickly as others. I had one pleasant surprise when I got this new pair . . . They smelled right. Shrink-to-Fits in the old days (at least ten years ago, or more) had a distinctive aroma; kind of a cross between the smell of new canvas and toasted hominy. This new pair had the weight, heft, & sturdiness of earlier versions of Levi's; and they smelled good too. I don't know what they did different; but . . . Levi's got it right (again).

What is there to say? This is the old-fashioned shrink-to-fit that always comes out looking great and feeling even better. Why pay for used jeans when you can get the real deal that fits perfectly? I am always in between sizes with the pre-washed and they never have the right contour for my body. Shrink-to-fit has always been and will always be the best option. Only complaint is that I don't feel they are as thick a fabric as they once were. Wranglers offers a thicker jean in their cowboy series and I wish Levi's would offer the same. But other than that these are the best in jeans. Let's hope they never discontinue it.

Have worn Levi 501 shrink to fit for 50 plus years. Have tried different styles and different brands when 501's were hard to find but was never satisfied with any of them. I always go back to the 501's. My ratings on the length and waist are due to the shrink to fit feature. After they have been washed a couple of times they are just right.

When purchasing dont take the picture as the actual jeans,i didnt look at the side pictures as this is the actual product so was dissapointed when arrived,the display picture should reflect the actual product purchased.Overall the quality is still high just the wrong type of Denim that I wanted.

the color does not correspont than I thought I see on my screen. I did not expect a jean "raw". this is still an excellent product that over time will become what I expected

I have been wearing Levi jeans shrink to fit for at least 65 years. I washed them in cold water the first time and when I pulled them out of the washer, the color was streaked on the legs. Faded. Very unhappy with the quality of the jeans.

Levi's jeans last just about forever, so I hadn't bought any in many years now. These were made in the Dominican Republic, but they are definitely just as good as those made in the good old days. And, they shrink to fit just like I expected, too. You will not be disappointed...

We shop at all the local stores and can't find jeans work jeans for me husband who needs 33 x 38. Sheplers has the best price and I can always depened on them when he needs new work jeans!

I ALWAYS TRY THEM ON WITHOUT UNDERWEAR AND SIT IN HOT-WATER BATHTUB FOR A SOAKING TO GET THE JEANS THOROUGHLY WET. THEN I LIE OUT IN THE SUN AND LET THEM SHRINK TO MY BODY. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY I HAVE EVER KNOWN TO GET THE PERFECT LEVIS FIT. WHEN LAUNDERED THEY FIT TIGHT AT THE WAIST, BUT ONCE PUT ON, THEY STRETCH RIGHT BACK OUT. THEY ARE THE MOST COMFORTABLE GARMENTS EVER MADE.

These jeans are my husband's favorite because of the fit. As a carpenter, he needs them to stay in place and last a long time. The price is reasonable as well as the quality.

Been wearing 501 since the early 60's. But over the years and were they are made has lessoned the quality, but not the price. Either way I still wear them.
