Heavy Duty is an understatement. This hoodie is heavy but keeps you warm. I don’t like the dull faded look that it gives. I wish it was a darker shade of black then what it is. Overall a good sweater.

This is the best sweatshirt I have. It’s durable, thick, heavy; but I can still move in it. The water resistant protection works well. The extra pocket was a surprise. A must for heavy durable sweatshirts to work in! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The only problem I’d really say I have with it is the print on the left sleeve that says “rain defender” because it’s super obvious, I personally prefer the low profile look not really trying to show off I guess. I’d recommend they just leave their “C” logo with the RD; kind of redundant to also have it say rain defender under that really.

Good hoodie. A little tight around my neck but I am on the bigger side. So far so good. Its warm and is basically my winter jacket here in Minnesota. I have notice some seems that the string is coming undone. Only had it for a 2 weeks. We will see what time does to it.

I bought a color that was discontinued, therefore it was on sale so I said why not. The only size available was large and I was worried it'd be too big. Fortunately when I received the jacket, it was a bit oversized but I was not drowning in it, making it a great fit. It's comfortable and does its job to the fullest!

Stout — when compared to heavyweight hoodies from a variety of makers and a bit heavy in actual weight. They're not exactly snuggly like couch hoodies, these are made for work. As for the word "duty", I have two of these that were purchased as factory seconds 8 or 9 years ago and they are still my go-to hoodies. The elastic continues to hold and snap-back. I've alternated wearing these at least 3 times a week, 9 or more months out of the year, almost a decade of work trimming and shoeing horses for a living and a DIY home owner. Most durable hoodies i've ever owned, bar-none! Wear on the forearms is from grabbing the material and pulling the sleeves up throughout the workday. Rain Defender: I don't remember how many times they were washed before the treatment had worn off, but when it was still functional it would turn misty rain, though heavier drops will plow right through it.

As advertised the rain defender hoodie repels light rain without soaking up a ton of moister. It still will get wet but not as wet as usual, I like it.

You can’t go wrong with this hoodie. I’m 5’6 150lbs and I order a small. Most hoodie my hoodies are medium, because smalls usually fits kind of snug, which makes moving around constantly uncomfortable. The small fit perfect and gives me a lot of room, so if I decided to layer underneath this hoodie it won’t be tight in me. I work in a freezer all day and get pretty cold. With those hoodie and heavy coat I’m Good all day. I can’t wait until fall, so I can order a black one for everyday use.

I always loved Carhartt gear because it can handle the rough outdoor lifestyle i throw at my pants, sweatshirts and jackets. I have worm through 1 rain coat because i wore it for three years straight. Love the angle cut on the sleeve cuff and pockets are functional. Thanks for providing such a great product.

Great hoodie. Due to the fabric and water resistant coating, it is a little stiffer and bulkier than other Carhartt hoodies, but still fits good. Also heavier weight than other Carhartt hoodies and will keep you warmer on the cold days.

Comfortable and warm, but could be a little looser: snug in the neck and under the arms making it difficult to put on and take off, otherwise fits well if a little baggy elsewhere. The arm length is good- I have long arms and am a 5’2” 126lb female (ordered a small).

You really get your money's worth with this hoodie. It runs a little large but that is alright. It's nice and heavy and you can tell they didn't cut corners when they made this thing. This is well worth the money in my book.

Amazing!!!! And comfortable and warm. If you like them big go a size up but your normal size is already pretty big. I went a size up and I'm swimming in it but still live it so much. Just remember these run bigger then normal hoodies.

Feels like it’s going to be “too heavy” but it’s actually perfect. I tested the water resistance by letting my husband spray me with the hose and the water rolled off, the tall is a little *too* long but I’m hoping it will shrink a little in the wash. Going to be great shoveling snow in it.

I have 10 or more Rain Defenders in all colors and many duplicate colors. They are the best best hoodies out there. My 27 year old son son thought that I was over rating them, until he used one of mine. Guess what his hoodie off choice is his is now? Rain defender! They are the best! You will possibly save a few dollars but they are not the same. Great product from a great company!

There were 3 sweatshirts. All the guys liked them a lot. They all have more than one, but they were truly surprised and happy that these are water repellant. Two of them work outside on occasion and the other one is a snowboarder in Utah. I'm happy they got what they liked for Christmas.

This is a great hoodie for the chilly damp weather we get in Northern California. It is plenty hefty enough to keep me warm and as a loose fit item it allows for plenty of movement. It easily sheds water from misty days or foggy days which we get a lot of. The only complaint I have about it is the fact I wish the drawstrings were a little longer and the hood was a little larger. Thats the only reason I gave it 4 stars, otherwise I love it.

Our admin folks (man and woman in 50s; woman in 20s) and our crew (5 men in their 20s) absolutely love their new hoodies - they are very cozy, the size is great, and the rain resistance was tested the first day (they all stayed warm). However, the phone pocket is too small - it doesn't account for even a small phone case. And for our two women, we had to choose between fit (women vs. men style) or color (our company color is navy blue). Why can't the color options be the same for men and women?

I live in northern new england and the winters can be pretty brutal. This hoodie does a great job in the fall and spring as a solo layer while also being a good layer under a jacket in the winter months. I find Carhartt struggles with sizing overall and this hoodie is no different. I wear XL and sometimes L in almost every brand and yet Carhartt I'm jumping between M and XL depending on the style. I ended up with a Large Tall and it's just a bit too large. A Medium Tall would be awesome if they made it but as it stands the Medium and Large are just a bit too short in the arms. Rain defender works well enough for a sprinkle or snow but no real rain or wet snow, which is fine for me. I enjoy the little "dip pocket" in the front pouch but I wish the placement was slightly modified as my hand always starts to go into it when I put my hands in the front pouch.

Another quality product from Carhartt. Rain Defender Heavyweight sweatshirt is the way to go if you work or play outside in the winter. I bought mine in 2xl tall. It keeps my tush warm on these cold days. I ordered 2 and I’m going to order 2 more unless Santa brings me a couple more.

This Sweatshirt is really comfortable and seems like heavy duty construction, but I was outside in a little bit of sleet for about an hour and a half and it started to soak through and made me a little chilly. If you plan to buy this for outside and with a lot rain, I would not buy it, but for shorter stents of rain, Perfect Sweatshirt for the job!!

My Boyfriend who is normally a 3XL so I got a 4XL because I wanted to make sure it would fit just in case it ran small. It’s big on him which he loved and it looks good. Water and or any liquid just pours right off of him so the rain defender part is spot on. Overall love this hoodie for him

I bought 2 hoodies, because my kids will refuse to wear winter jackets..and it was 29 outside at 05:00 and my child was warm without coat :) will buy more...the bonus is it leeps kids dry when raining...because kids will not use an umbrella.. fyi my daughter is 4'9" and she is fluffy and a 2xl in mens fit her great...(200lb) not shaming her at all, but anyways she is 17...fits her great...my son is 13 5'9" and i got him a large in mens (165lb) it gives him room to grow...??

I live in the PNW so “rain defender“ sounded good. I was not expecting waterproof, but the “rain defender” actually soaks up the water. It does not repel water. And, as it soaks up the water it starts to get heavier. I had my last Carhartt sweatshirts for 12 years. They are now threadbare and still perform better than the new one. They were 100% cotton and never designed to shed water. I’m still better with them in the rain than I am the new “rain defender“. As soon as you put the “rain defender” on, you can tell it can’t “breathe“. It is not comfortable to hike in or to work in. I’ve had to resort to wearing my Carhartt cotton duck vest under a rain jacket. I have been wearing the sweatshirt for a month and the fabric is not going to hold up. I think the “rain defender“ for Carhartt it’s a big fail. I have been shopping elsewhere for a sweatshirt. For me, a three-piece hood is a must so Carhartt is turning out to be the best of the worst. I will have to go with their mid-weight sweatshirt and hope for the best. Note: I did get the carbon heather color. I am considering another color as they are 75% cotton instead of 55% cotton. With all the other good reviews I wonder if there is that much of a difference in the color/fabric content.*

Part of my high rating for the Rain Defender hoodie I bought is for the color, which now is discontinued. It is a unique deep dark green-blue. I like it because it's unique and bold and doesn't show dirt because it's darker. I'm not sure I would buy any of the current colors because they are pretty plain. Anyway I wear it most days. They heavy weight comes in handy and the rain repelling aspect as I live in Olympia, WA w/all the PNW rain. I almost bought a second just like it but cat hair sticks to it a bit, perhaps due to that Rain Defender coating, so I thought maybe I'll also buy one that's not a Rain Defender and alternate. The sleeves are nice and long on me even though it's a small. I'm a woman just under 6' and women's stuff tends to be too short in the arms, though I haven't tried Carhartt women's stuff. I figure that'd be a pricey gamble. Anyway it's good quality and heavy weight. I just wish they wouldn't discontinue the more unique colors but perhaps not enough people agree w/me.

This is the best sweatshirt I have ever owned. It is a heavy weight material that stands up to rigerous work in muddy ditches and climbing in and out of trench boxes most days. I’ve burned up a lot of sweat shirts in no time on the grade but these sweatshirts take a beating and come back for more.

This thing is gigantic and the hole you give for putting my head through is so small it feels like it was meant for a child. Then, the hood itself sits on your neck, all bunched up and basically pushes your head forward unless you're wearing the hood on your head - which for an XL is extremely small, it honestly feels like you patched a hood from a child's sized sweatshirt for this one.

Fist thing first, I would recommend this product to anyone. I was alittle Leary when trying rain resistant anything because I work outside. I just got rained on for 8 hours and I am completely dry. I think it is an amazing product from carhartt. I’m not sure how long the water resistance will last but it is nice. The sweater fits perfectly as well. I am XL, I bought XL and the fit is good. Don’t size up or down. Side note, I left durability at 3 star because I’m not sure how it will last long term. Everything else was first impression.

Worked great the first time I wore it in the rain. Rain beaded up an ran off perfectly. Hoodie was only damp in the outside, dried it in the basement with a dehumidifier running over a few days . Tried it a week later and it sucked up the rain like a sponge and became extremely heavy.

Heavy and warm hoodie. Rain defender keeps you dry in light rain but it's not a rain coat. Expensive but they last a few years so in the end it's worth it.

These are terrific rain resistant hoodies and I own several and also a bunch of their original hoodies. So when I say the fit is slightly different, I know of which I speak. The head hole is smaller and has zero give while pulling on. I'm female (5'4'', 150)but prefer the fit of men's small hoodies to women's because women's sleeves are too short and too tight, so not only do I struggle getting this on over my small woman-sized head, usually yanking my neck back, but it will also pull my pony tail completely out. I will keep buying them because once they are on, they are unbeatable, but danged Carhartt, you're killing my neck!

Disappointed. Went to buy a new carhart hoodie since I have several and noticed the fabric felt different. They used to be 70% cotton and now they are 55% cotton. I left the store without buying anything carhart and will be looking to buy something with more cotton and made in the USA.

The Hoodie is very thick and warm. Haven't had it in the rain yet. I ordered a Tall because of my long arms, the only drawback is the body of the shirt is long as well, so it rides way down over my butt. But that's an acceptable trade off for the sleeves.

Not satisfied at all I give a ZERO!!! I had item delivered to store UPS says it was delivered on 12/4/20 and the store does not have it? I live 35 miles from store and was in town for Dr. appt. on 12/8/20 so I dropped by to get it. They said we do not have it. They said packages are not delivered directly to the store and that it usually takes 5 to 10 business days after delivery for them to get it and that they would call me to come pick it up once they have it. Today is 12/16/20 and I still have not received a call. I am not happy at all! I clearly ordered item well in advance and at this time will not have it for our family gift giving which is 12/19/20 and this is a gift for my nephew. Again not happy at all. I will never order online from the website again

Best hoodie in the game, I work outside in the cold for 14 hrs a day very warm, thick and heavy never get cold I brought all 5 colors in the heavy rain defenders plus I like to style and profile and showcase my carhartt brand lol..I also have 68 middleweight hoodies in all colors including the long sleeve t shirts and short sleeve shirt to go with the hoodies and the beanie hats to match..and about 8 heavy duty jackets and 16 pullover fleece jackets heavy duty socks, pants?And thermal pants and well the best working clothes in the business

The elastic around the bottom of the hoodie is overly tight. The material and stitching is great though. Would not buy again because of the poor design. If it fit like a regular hoodie with the material used it would be the best hoodie ever. Runs one size large.

Heavy warm sweatshirt which is exactly what I was looking for. Rain defense is a nice feature for quick trips out with the dogs in light rain/snow. Holds up well although the grey has pulled a bit where the navy and green have not. The grey also shed more at the beginning (wash with other things with caution at the start until it’s done shedding little lint balls from the inside!). Overall I love them and live in them most of the time!

The Rain Defender loose fit hoodie in XL fits well. The hoodie is just large enough to add layers underneath such as a long sleeve shirt, a long John shirt or a t-shirt and still be comfortable. The hoodie also holds up in the rain. Warm enough for cool days and cold days with layers. I have purchased this Carhartt hoodie in almost every color over years and will continue to do so.

Definitely a winter sweatshirt. Very heavy duty and has some serious weight to it. 15 degree winter days in Rhode Island, all you need is a short sleeve, a long sleeve, and this bad boy over top of that you’re good to go. If you’re buying it for the waterproofing property, don’t. That whicks away after a couple of washes. Still a great work hoodie though.

Quality on this item has gone down a notch or two over the past few years. Still a great item but not what it was. My wife bought me my first sweatshirt a couple of years ago and this winter I added three more. When my new ones arrived I thought I ordered the wrong item. Not as thick, not as water repellent, not as durable feel, doesn't wash as well. This is a hard review because without the previous version I would be raving about this item but knowing how much better it used to be made me a bit disappointed in what it is now.

The next two I bought were even better because of the rain defender built into the sweatshirts. The recent two I bought are just as great as my last ones. They have the same durability which I was concerned about because some companies sell the “same” items but they change how thick the material is. Not in this case!

I am going to have to return it - - it is huge, and the person I bought it for always wears XL but was way too big on him. I know holidays are hard for shipping, but I did pay for 2 days and got it on the 3rd day late that evening. It was OK as far as the date that I had to give the gift. Sooo disappointed in the size and everyone wondered if somehow it got size labeled wrong.

This is a true heavy weight sweat shirt. Spent the day working in the brush getting snagged with thorns. I expected to find holes and pulls everywhere when I was done but there were no holes and barely any pulls.

Arms are the perfect length but the torso is really long. I don't know why Carhartt stuff always has such short arm length in regular sizes.

I was looking for a Hoodie for the change of seasons from Summer to Fall. I loved the color, the fact it has Rain Defender technologies and it was on sale. I prefer either 1/4 zip or full zip for when it warms up, but liked the color enough to order the pullover. It feels very comfortable, has some room to layer underneath.

This is a super warm, durable hoodie. It's a little baggy in the belly area. I'm kind of between the medium and large size (at least for how I would like my clothes to fit) at 6ft 1in, 210 lbs athletic build. Mediums are good in the body size, but semi short in the length of sleeves & body, and semi restrictive in the shoulder/ chest. A large covers the length and chest/ shoulder restriction, but adds the excess amount of material in the body midsection, akin to swimming in a potato sack. Being between sizes you have to pick your poison I suppose. The solution is two words, medium tall. Do some justice to your customers that are still in decent shape. Awkward fitting clothing drives me crazy. This is still an otherwise great, heavy duty, warm hoodie, just the fitment issue with me, and I'm sure others.

Warm, water repellant, I would definitely recommend this to anyone working in outside in the winter weather. The only reason I give it 4 out of 5 is because of the size. I used the tool on the website and it recommended a size that is quite a bit larger than I really needed. But, this thing is tough and that’s all I really care about. If I could I would’ve put 4.5 stars, the size is just one too big.

Very pleased, the material is very thick, and you can just feel its good quality. It's not one of those cheap hoodies you get for free. Super happy with the stitching etc. You get what you pay for. I think the rain defender stuff is nice but I'm sure will wash out after a few washes so I'm not expecting much there. I was also happy about the price, the same price or cheaper than some other premium brand hoodies I found online.

I bought two, a 2XLT/3XLT. 2XLT is what I’ve always worn before. This one is very tight. I might have to return it for another 3 or a 4XLT. It’s also not very good in the wind. Not as soft as other sweatshirts I’ve owned.

Its nice and heavy. which I guess is to be expected. It is perfect for high winds, the wind doesn't cut through it at all. I've been using it as an in-between jacket since its not 60 degrees but there isn't snow on the ground and it is perfect. It is also so cozy, sometimes you have to break in hoodies that are more heavy duty so they are comfy but not this, straight out of the package comfort.

Carhartt quality comes through once again in this excellent hoodie! Rain defender really works as I was caught outside in a Spring shower; this hoodie sheds water like a duck. I am 5ft. 11in.tall and weigh 185lbs. Since I lift weights on a regular basis I purchased the Large and it fits just fine; I can even wear a couple layers underneath it. If you have a "normal" build a size Medium will do just fine! Check out this Carhartt before you buy any other hoodie!

Remember when you were a kid and your folks would always get your hoodie a size or two large and it was the comfiest thing you owned? I ordered mine tall, and that's exactly what I got, all that comfort and warmth wrapped up in a rain resistant package. Surprisingly enough, this hoodie also breathes incredibly well! I have yet to overheat in it when I come indoors. Knowing Carhartt construction, having owned many pairs of their work pants over the years, I'm absolutely positive this thing will stand up to time and wear. I cannot recommend these sweatshirts heartily enough, they are durable, extremely comfortable, warm when its cold and not too hot whens its warm, easy to clean, dry and stylish. I might have to buy another!

I was given one of these hoodies and I loved it. After catching it on fire I decided to buy another one. The one I bought online was not the same as my last one. This one is made in vietnam and seems less tough than the one made in Mexico. Plus it fits a bit larger than the one I had before. Still a great hoodie.

I ordered a size small which unfortunately is slightly large on me as I am a petite woman, but that's a personal problem. However, I'm so pleased that I bought this sweater. It is probably the warmest sweater I own! I'm a truck driver and I needed something warm that I could wear without a jacket or coat because it gets so hot inside the truck. This sweater has kept me warm enough to wear it alone in the truck as well as when I get out of the truck. I bought this sweater in October and started wearing it and It's still keeping me warm in December! (For reference I live in IL) I've also worn it in the rain and have stayed dry. Couldn't ask for more.

Carhartt had the BEST designed and fabric in a sweatshirt but a few years ago changed their fabric to something much less durable. Stains easily now and collar pills badly after a few washes. My Rain Defender from 4 years ago is still like the day I bought it. The ones I bought last year (I purchased four) are all being replaced this year. Disappointing that Carhartt quality is now only consistent for one season of wear.

Im 6’0” 240lbs and ordered the large and tall and it is a little big. The tall comes down just past my waist a little bit but, I absolutely enjoy this hoodie though the rain defender part is the main reason I bought this it works like a charm!!! Just take it off and shake it and all the water will come off! 10/10 would recommend!

The men's hoodies are far superior than what you will find in the women's section. I have a couple of the women's hoodies and the fabric is much lower quality, wearing out fast. The womens fit also doesn't work on my curves, yet this men's heavyweight is perfect. go fogure... I size up to a L from M for a comfortable loose fit and never bother buying hoodies from the women's section after discovering these. This is THE classic Carhartt hoodie you're looking for. My first one is a solid 5+ years in and going strong with no wear in sight. Literally bulletproof. I live in these out on the homestead, and wear them hard; mucking out the chicken yard, hauling around wheelbarrows of compost, pruning fruit trees, etc. they not only protect me from everything from blackberries to poultry poo, but light-medium rain too! They wash well and stains don't seem to stick. These are my go-to in all seasons but summer. Huge fan of the little inside pocket too. Perfect for a pack of smokes and a lighter, or a safe secure spot for some cash or a credit card. Always have some chapstick in there in winter.. gum and hairties.. My husband stashes chew in his.

Work in a city water department in northern Illinois and bought this in October, when things are starting to get cold. Keeps me warm all day, cuts a slight breeze well, and holds off a drizzle which is better then most. Totally would recommend for anyone who works outside or similar

I ordered this to replace a former "hoodie" that served me well for over eight years. Upon delivery, I found that it is, indeed heavy weight. It is loose enough to allow a heavy shirt, although I can't see why, long enough to reach over my hips, (yeah!) the arms are perfect, I am 6'2", the neck area is a little snug when donning and removing, but doesn't cramp the nck when fully donned. I am still making adjustments for the small pocket on the right side, but that is a small matter. Warm, comfortable, a pleasure to wear.

This is true to size, heavyweight and of very good quality. I've had my eye on this one for awhile but needed to wait until a discount to purchase it. Sure enough, it was exactly what I expected; a good fit (not clinging and not short in the arms) and truly heavy weight. For some reason, the trend nowadays for work hoodies is light weight and a knit-fleece material that will not hold up when working outdoors. I may try the mid-weight next time they are on sale to see what they are like.

Bought this hoodie because I work mostly outdoors with animals, man is it warm! Sometimes have to take off my vest because I get TOO warm. When spraying kennels or filling pools and bowls with water it keeps me dry with the water repelling fabric. Works great when it’s snowing too! If you’re looking for a warm hoodie for the cold months with snow and rain, this is the one. The little secret pocket is an added bonus.

For the kind of outdoor work that i do, which can run up to 24 hours a day, is great protection in a cool to cold climate against the wind and lite rain. Winds in Kansas can be pretty brutal some times during the cold season.

My husband constantly wears sweatshirts everyday. He loves them. So I started out with a test product order and he loves it. It was originally supposed to be for work and he ended up not wearing it to work because it is so warm. So I asked him what was the purpose not to wear it to work. That’s what we purchased it for. He these exact words this is to good to wear for work. So I asked go ahead and purchase another one for work. He’s always saying that he don’t have enough Sweatshirt s to wear to work. That’s when he said he’s just being cheap. I guess because he doesn’t want to buy them. So I balanced out my check book and ordered him a variety of three. Hopefully he’ll love those to. The rain defender is 5 stars thus far.

This is the best sweatshirt for outside work! I live in an area of the upper Midwest that has very cold winters and very large accumulations of snow. It’s a pretty extreme environment. This sweatshirt is the absolute best that I have found. It’s well made, water repellent, durable, and WARM. I have a half dozen of them and I will keep buying them!!! I recently bought one for my teenager daughter, and it’s her new favorite. Thanks Carhartt!!!

Imported from Vietnam Material blend is Shell 75% Cotton, 25% polyester, & hood lining 100% cotton New rain defender (2024) heavyweight hoodie feels cheap like Gildan hoodie cheap, not loose fitting like old ones blend is Shell 55% Cotton, 45% Polyester, and hood lineing 60% Cotton 40% polyester. these hoodies held up decently, the cuffs broke down pretty quick though, but held up after tearing. and the biggest downfall for these are the opening for your head, they seem to run really small and have to squeez your head through

Got this for my boyfriend, I’m in love with the color of the peat, it looks amazing super soft in the inside while also being thick. He spilled many things on it the first time he wore and there was no stains just slid right off the sweatshirt. One thing to remember that their sizes do run big he usually wears a medium but the small fit way better.

I have 2 of these and they are my absolute favorite hoodies. They are warm and comfortable. I like the smaller pocket inside the big front pocket. Fits my phone or keys perfectly for an extra layer from the rain or snow. The material is not as "stretchy" as the normal Carhartt sweatshirts which I personally like. It keeps the sleeves from riding up past my forearms if I'm doing outdoor work in bad weather. Definitely worth the money to anyone on the fence about purchasing one.

The most comfortable piece of clothing I own. I wish it unfolded like a tent so I could live in it. I regret only buying one because I don't like taking it off long enough to wash it. We should send these as relief aid to disaster victims around the world, so they might know true comfort again. Love the color, weight, and material. The added little pocket inside big pocket is great for phone or wallet, less concern with it falling out. Went out in a drizzle for a few hours never soaked through. Perfect in every way. I would say the only thing I didn’t realize is how much looser the loose fit was, I should have gone down a size. If you teeter between large and XL go with the large in the loose fit, it’s roomy in all the right places.

This is just a quality review the fit on the new sweaters is very off, narrow in the shoulders and tight in the waist a slimmer fit than the original loose fit. I used to wear a small, and I'm a large in everything else clothing wise. Now I order a small and it fits like a medium in the chest a small in the shoulders and a slim fit large in the sleeves. I'm confused and will have to eventually try a medium and large out, to figure out if that was a defective fit or I'm going to have to change sizes loving forward. STILL THE QUALITY IS THERE, Repels water like no other and definitely warm when it needs to be

Purchased two of these, one in black, one in a charcoal grey color. Both were size large original fit. Grey fits perfect, black is too big more like an XL. Grey was made in Mexico, black in Guatemala. Otherwise great product.

When I think of a sweatshirt, this is what I think of. It's heavyweight, comfortable and durable. I truly feel this is the best sweatshirt on earth. Carhartt has ruined other brands' sweatshirts for me. Nothing compares. I am 6'2", 195 and ordered an L - Tall. It's plenty long. Maybe too long, so taller guys, keep that in mind.

Isnt a better sweater on the market insanely warm completely dry despite intense rain. I find some sweaters are either too big or too small this is just that perfect in between stage of slightly bigger than what you would usually wear.

It’s a nice thick rain resistant sweatshirt but I wear a large in most clothes and the large carhartt rain defender is way too big. I should have got a medium and it would have fit fine. Good durable product though.

I really love the way these things fit I usually wear a large or extra large in shirts I'm 5ft9in and about 200lbs and wear a medium I don't dry it I just hang dry mine I would absolutely recommend.

Should have bought this sooner. Fit is true to size. Much heavier fabric than big-box store hoodies. Body length is longer too covering my lower back much better. Really like the 3-panel hood which fits much better and doesn't gap on the sides. So good I ordered another in gray.

Durability, comfort, style, and fit is unmatched. I'm 6'2"/247 lbs and I never order anything in Big and Tall and all of my Carhartt gear fits me to perfection. I've tried other brands and none compare to the satisfaction I get with the Carhartt brand. The Rain Defender Hooded Sweatshirts that I have haven't been put to the test yet, but I'm confident that they'll perform just as good if not better than my other hooded sweatshirts that I have from Carhartt.

Received this yesterday and just love the quality. It is very thick and is a heavyweight hoodie. I think it looks really stylish and I am proud to wear it. Haven't tried it in the rain so can't comment on that. I wore it out by itself this morning in 38-42 degrees. I was still a bit chilly but just a little. I should have taken one more layer with me. I really love this hoodie. I just bought it for work but this would look great in the nightclub too! Oh and I usually wear a size 2XL. But this runs a size large so I got the XL and it fits perfectly!

Good in bad weather, and pretty warm. The water resistace makes it less breathable, so I can't wear it when active unless it's really cold. It's not a rain coat, but I have worn it for cold, drizzly baseball games and practices and have been very comfortable in it. When I have to throw batting practice I take it off and put on something lighter. The pocket is great- big enough to be usable, and the phone pocket inside it is a nice touch.

I have had several of these sweatshirts and have loved them all. They keep you warm, reasonably dry and seem to last forever. My only suggestion would be not to dry them on too hot a setting as the arms have drawn up a little.

Ice had this hoodie since November of 2020 and now, 4 months later the zipper has broken. For a company that is "committed" to durability, and charges for it, that certainly isn't the case. I mostly wear this to and from work, I have coveralls at work as it gets quite dirty. Besides that maybe washing it every 2 weeks or so? Either way I expected this to last year's, like many of my much cheaper hoodies. I love the fit, length, and look of this hoodie, but unfortunately not worth the price

Hood strings are short, so would not get caught in equipment. The Large/Regular body is full figured, allowing layering underneath. If the body area shrinks when laundered, that might be better. The fleece out-of-the-box does not shed much at all. The exterior will defeat windy conditions.

It has a ton of lint and loose fuzz on it when I bought it. Once I washed it and scrubbed it for like an hour it was good to go. Wish it came with “how to prepare” guide that felt with the lint. Now that I cleaned it, the thing is awesome! Also it runs a tad big

Alright so here we go. This is a great hoodie. I’ve red many reviews while waiting for my order to get to me. I’ve had trouble making my mind about the sizing, so much that i had to put my height in weight in this review for my tall guys out here. The hoodie fits great as a Large Tall. Shoulders fall into place, arm lengt is perfect and its not too baggy. It runs big in the stomach area but nothing much, it looks good. I wish i could join pictures with my review so you could compare. I’ve had some under armour hoodie in large tall, as well as Ralph Laurent hoodie in large tall, they fit a bit slimmer and closer to the body. The sleeve are a bit closer to the skin as well. The cuffing of the wrist and waist is good and makes it look like its fitted but you have big arms. Overall good hoodie, the water peels down after many washes. October weather in Montreal, Quebec is cold and rainy and the hoodie performs well. WASH AND DRY INSIDE OUT, i cant stress this enough, it will help maintain the water repelent effect and prevent it from having flint all over it. I think that’s it Tl/dr: great hoodie, large tall for 6ft5 230 pds, wash and dry inside out, warm and tough.

I wear it every morning and night to walk my dog for half an hour or so. Temp has been in the 20's and it's plenty warm. The pocket is roomy and keeps my hands warm too. Very comfortable and warm.

My boys work outside a lot and cathartic rain defenders is all they want. They say they are the best and they keep them nice and warm

Sweatshirt fabric started pilling from day one, apparently from an elastic harness I wear for my birding binoculars. The rain defending may still work but the sweatshirt doesn't look nice, so its limited in use practically from day 1. If you have anything that may rub on this, like maybe a seatbelt, suspenders, etc... I'd be careful and get something else. This was only washed and hung to dry, so not an issue with laundering too much like Carhartt wanted me to believe. An issue with the fabric!

These are by far my favorite hoodies! Got them for all the guys on my project and they wear them constantly. My only issue with them is that they tend to fade after a year or so of wearing them outside in the field every day. A little disappointing but I still wont buy anything else.

Really nice heavy duty hoodie. It's different than a normal hoodie-tighter stitch and thicker. Almost like a jacket. I would never not have one and I wear it more than anything else when I am outside fall and spring. Also turns a rain jacket into a winter jacket when used as a base layer. As far as rain defense I guess it wicks light rain away more than an average cotton hoodie and holds off absorption but it's not waterproof and if it's solid rain it will get soaked.

Nothing beats a carhartt! I love this hoodie. I bought it for myself in a medium which is what I normally wear, I like my hoodies to be a little oversized, but this hoodie swallowed me whole lol I definitely should’ve ordered a small. I ended up giving it to my husband. I’m 5’ 2” and this came down to about my knees. But it’s a great hoodie it’s thick, soft and so comfortable

My rain defenders are awesome hoodies, wear them all the time. Only down fall to these Carhartt hoodies is they run larg so my mediums fit like large, although I bought a small and have to fight to get it over my head. The warmth with these hoodies is better then your average hoodie...

All in all, this is a great sweater. You can tell it is very durable and great for a cold night. The one thing that you should be cautious about is that it DOES run a little larger. I’m 6,2 and a size large in most clothing. Maybe it’s because I choose to buy a size L/Tall to help with the length of the sweater, but it’s definitely on the LONGER size. Should of stuck to a normal Large. Never the less It’s a good sweater. I’ll probably invest in a normal large later.

Fits well, very comfortable. Rain defender tech works pretty well. Only downside is the hood. Hood is a little small and tends to bunch up on the neck. Despite the hood I will more then likely buy another one.

Looks and feels great. Well made and very warm. Wife got me a 3xl for christmas and it fit well when walking/standing. Im (6' 300lbs) I ordered another one in size 3xl tall. I like them both but the Tall is more comfy when sitting, bending over, reaching, and lounging around. The sleeves are a bit longer and the extra length in the body keeps you covered when you need it.

I have two rain defenders. I highly recommend the 1/4 zip up. It’s much easier to put on. They should design the original to have a bigger opening to pull over your head.

The small fits perfectly on a 5'11 150lb build. Doesn't shrink dramatically after washing and is incredibly warm and comfortable. If you hang up your hoodies, you'll have to slide the hanger in from the bottom so you don't stretch out the neck. Might have to buy another one in a different color!

I like this sweater very much. It’s soft and very warm! It also has a little pocket within the pouch that’s really good at keeping your hand warm, there were too that would make this sweater awesome 5 stars. But the biggest draw back from me is the size of the hood. It needs to be bigger because in the rain the only way to keep your head completely dry is if you’re hunched over. Other that the hood, this is a great comfortable hoodie that I wear daily.

I have had one of these for a few years now and love it. I wear it all the time especially if it is cooler out. I have worn it a ton in my woodworking shop so it has seen pretty rough times and had some abuse. I recently bought another one as my old one has several stains and the cuffs are pretty worn and have some areas that are coming undone. I still have my old one which I will probably wear till it’s falling off me lol. I also wanted a new one that looked nicer for when my wife I occasionally go out with friends.

This shirt is nice for cold rainy days. The material is heavyweight so wearing it above 50 degrees would be difficult. Does it’s job the rain and snow just run off the material and it’s got the comfortable cotton feel not that plasticity material that other company are using for dry technology. I wish Carhartt would come out with this shirt in lighterweight models too.

Got this for a Christmas daughter in law she was ecstatic put it on as soon as she got it .She stole my sons and was wearing it all the time now he can have his back. She was happy to see it was a rain defender and when they were loading up the car to leave it was raining she came in saying it really works I'm not getting wet. Car hart items last forever and does not shrink. Thats all my sons and grandsons wear.

This sweatshirt does what it was made for. It fits snug but not tight. The two small complaints I would have is that the head opening is a little small and it does not breath well in warmer temps; but this is sill worth the price to stay dry on cool damp days.

Great hoodie! Heavier than most, and the anti-rain coating keeps you dry unless you are caught in a thunder storm. Best part is, if you are wet, take it off and shake it hard - most of the rain comes off and the rest drys quickly. Love the key pouch inside the pocket!

Bought this sweatshirt for both my son and husband in L Tall. They are 6'5" and 6'3". Fits nice and is long enough in body length and sleeves. My son works on a dredge, gets quite wet and swears by the Rain Defender doing its job. They both like the 1/4 zip & cozy inside. It's a 10!

The hoodie is really warm and comfortable, id recommend it to anyone looking around for a good quality hoodie to wear during work or colder weather. Only downside of the hoodie was because I bought the wrong size, totally my fault though.

Can’t say enough good things about this sweatshirt. As warm, comfortable and durable as you would expect from Carhartt. I’m 6’2” and ordered an XL Tall but changed it for a regular XL which after a wash fits perfectly with plenty of room to layer up underneath. Haven’t worn it in the rain yet but it stays warm and dry in the snow.

The sweatshirt feels great and durable and although i feel carhartt for me runs large, this sweat shirt runs true for all other carhartt clothing that I own. ....However, the only issue I have with it is that the neck hole on this sweatshirt is ridiculously small. To the point where I had to cut the neck so that I could get my head in, (my head is also small in regards to most people as is it) With that being said I will only be able to tell with time how well that cut I had to make will hold up.

Purchased for my son and after 1 wash it pilled horribly. Reached out to carhartt with my concerns but was told they wouldn't do anything because pilling is not considered a defect and that I should try returning it to the retailer I purchased from (which they wouldn't guarantee would accept the return). Dense pilling after 1 wash on that fabric is certainly a defect of fabric- where is your quality control carhartt?!

I purchased a Carbon Heather Rain Defender sweatshirt about 3 months ago. It did not wear well at all. It pilled around the opening of the hood and on the body of the sweatshirt. I have several in black and they are great. I was told that the problem with the Heather Carbon is the composition. It would have been nice to know there is a difference in the cotton/polyester ratio and it may cause the problem that I pointed out above. I would not recommend this product
