Just received this and tried it on. Fits well and is warm. However my only complaint it that the good seems to have a mind of its own and won't lay flat. It sticks out off my shoulders and at times the sides of the hood touch my ears. Very odd as I have never had this kind of issue before.

The coat is basically fine I think it's a great coat but I have been having a problem with the zipper how it is sewn in and it doesn't go up-and-down very easy I have to constatly fight with it its a bit aggrivating

Runs pretty big. Felt like a kid wearing dad’s jacket. Thought wearing another layer under it would help. It didn’t, still a ton of room. Gave it to a friend, bought a medium. Hopefully when it arrives it fits better. Looks and feels durable. Time will tell.

It's difficult to know where to start, when it comes to reviewing my Duck Quilt-Lined Active Jac. Perhaps I should start with what I don't like about the garment? With the exception of the plastic zipper on the inside pocket, this garment is flawless. This was the first time I purchased Carhartt workwear. Although, having read all the customer reviews, I was aware that Carhartt's sizing can be described as very generous, I thought I knew best. This meant that instead of ordering a figure-hugging 2XL Regular or a loose-fitting 3XL Regular, I went for broke with a HUGE 4XL Regular. Even after washing my Active Jac a few times, it is still huge. Next time I will order from Carhartt - and there will definitely be a next time - I will go with 3XL Regular. I have, however, learned to love my huge Active Jac. Spent January in Transylvania, where my Active Jac was admired by both locals and visitors. I made full use of the extra space by liberal layering - Under Armour thermals, Hubbard Plaid Flannel Shirt and a British 'Wooly Pully' jumper. This pretty-much took care of all the extra space I acquired by ordering the 4XL Regular. As you can see in the photos, an Eastern European winter is as cold as anything in the States, but my Active Jac kept me snug as a bug! I was so impressed that I am going to order two more for my young daughters! And it's US-made! Well done Carhartt.

I'm 6'3", 185lbs, lean build. I've struggled with finding the right size in most clothing, always floating between L and XL to get the right length, Ls usually run short and XLs are my desired length but is too big elsewhere. A got a size L and it fits PERFECT. I'm a ride or die Carhartt fan for the long haul now.

Your own personal cocoon. When it gets cold and windy, pull the hood over your head to create a cocoon keeping you warm. The jacket is bulky and heavy but gives you plenty of room if your working outside. In addition to the comfort of the hood, the jacket is longer so it doesn't hike up and expose your back to the cold. It a closes with a solid zipper keeping the cold out and the warmth in. The jacket is built to last.

I love this jacket. I am a woman, about 5’ 8” tall and of fairly slender build. I purchased the Men’s Small, as the women’s version in my size is actually bigger around but not as long in the sleeves, so not as good a fit. The color is nice. The Men’s is also Made in the USA, which matters to me. The jacket is warm and though it is heavy, it does not feel heavy when wearing it. Very satisfied. Shipping was as promised, and it arrived well-packaged.

Incredible winter jacket for keeping warm. The ribbed cuffs and bottom keep the cold out. The quilted flannel lining keeps the warm in. Though the lining isn't very thick, the jacket is very poofy. Plenty of room for another layer if needed. The zipper is heavy duty, but mine was a bit hard to get going when I first got it. Got easier over time, but not smooth, and it still likes to get stuck at the seam marking the top of the outer pockets. 6' 3" 260. xl tall fits great.

This is a great work jacket, looks to be very durable. Build quality looks awesome. I'm 6'5" and weigh in at 220lbs, the Large Tall fits well for my light duties. The only thing I'd like improved is the hood size, it seems a bit short in depth but still keeps me warm. Seems a bit stiff but this should improve with use. Great jacket overall.

I love Carhartt so much I went on their website to order a jacket as the one I wear from work is showing damage from age. I bought a new coat in black and loved the look but it was too large for me. Excellent customer service as I contacted Carhartt to return the coat but later gave it to my son who is happy to have it. I'll have to buy a smaller size.

The Duck Quilted Flannel Lined Active Jacket was a solid purchase. Pricing is very fair, quality is high, the sizing runs a little big, but overall I am happy with the jacket. I'd prefer if it had some additional pockets.

I would highly recommend this jacket. It fits just right with room to layer if need be. I could use a little more warmth, but worked in 30deg F just fine. I would suggest to manufacturer to add a flap covering the pocket, this would prevent water from running into the pocket. It was worth spending a few extra dollars over other jackets. Very happy with this product.

Very large sizing, thought about sending it back but the $50 return postage was prohibitive, so washed warm and dried in the drier and has shrunk enough to be adequate. Still plenty of room for layers underneath. Hope the zip frees up as very tough. Will wax it up. Jacket will last forever just sad I won’t grow in to it.

The duck quilted flannel lined active Jac is the best work coat of all time! The coats ability is beyond belief. The Michigan winters we face are extremely cold and harsh, and this coat doesn’t even blink at them. I’ve had my coat for over 6 years and wear it everyday in the cold fall/winter. The material is so strong and well put together that using it every day there are little wear spots on the coat. You have the normal wear spots around the wrist where you are grabbing things or rubbing the coat on a surface but you do not get holes of any kind. It’s because the coat is made to get used. The warmth of the coat is phenomenal. You can wear a long sleeve carhartt shirt underneath and throw the coat on in winter and be warm and functional, that’s how thick the flannel line of the coat is. A carhartt hoodie underneath the coat, and no weather is stopping you! The coat’s “active” title is really that. This coat doesn’t even feel like you have a heavy winter coat on, it doesn’t stop you from doing any job. You have a full range of motion no matter what you are doing, weather you are pushing, pulling, lifting, or swinging you can do anything in this active coat. If you want a solid coat that doesn’t back down to any job in any weather, then this is the coat for you!

I was very surprised at how warm this jacket is. my body runs a little hot, if its not below 40 outside, i cannot wear this thing. so warm! i wore it snowmobiling around the neighborhood with just a tshirt on underneath in 0 degree weather and thought to myself multiple times how i cannot believe I'm not cold right now. Its an amazing coat.

I live in Las Vegas but frequently visit family in Michigan during winter. I have absolutely no tolerance for cold. One year I arrived and my nephew said you are going to freeze to death. He went home and brought me this jacket to borrow. I finally got my own today. It is very windy (55 mph winds and 52 degrees - yes its a dry cold too). First time all day not shivering. Nice that I now go out comfortably when it's cold. Happy it's made in the ????.

My son moved to college and needed a thicker coat. Carhartt was my first thought. I got him a medium so there would be plenty of room for layers underneath and it fits perfectly. The outer layer is a little stiff but I am sure it will relax the more he wears it. He is happy with it.

The build quality on this is what I expect of a product to have the Carhartt name on it . The zipper is large and heavy duty. The stitching is excellent. It's heavy duty, but still easy to move in and not stiff. It is very warm especially when working, but even if you're just outdoors enjoying a game in the winter it's plenty warm enough with a sweatshirt or hoodie under it. It does run slightly big in the length of the arms but I have shorter arms so maybe that's why. I have the black color and it looks great. Overall I love this jacket and will be buying another. I'm always amazed at the quality you get for the price of Carhartt products. This is the jacket that my family has worn for years and I highly recommend it!

I live in the Pacific North west and we get a lot of rain, I have tried various rain jackets and most of them do not really keep you dry and warm. This Jacket is great, fits perfect, its warm, and best of all I now stay dry. Now I just need to keep wearing it so its not so stiff.

I received the coat and was very impressed with the color, build, fit, and finish of it. I cannot wait to use it this Fall and Winter ( or maybe I can wait!?!). I closely inspected the metal zipper, a weak point in many of my other coats and jackets. It is “heavy duty”! It puts every coat I own to shame. Its too hot here in Missouri to break-it-in just yet, but I have started to tumble dry it with no heat and several “dryer balls” to help with “break-in”. I am very pleased with my purchase and plan on purchasing more coats as presents for a select few of my family.

I bought this because it was one of the only USA made jackets offered in Medium Tall (I’m 6’3”, 180#, 41” chest). I have other medium Carhartt tops (10+ year old sweatshirt and brand new vest) that fit just fine. But I could easily fit my sweatshirt, vest, and another insulated jacket underneath this. I’m disappointed that I have to return it, because it suits my needs just fine as far as where it’s made, length, warmth, and features go. It’s just huge around.

This is the second one of these I've had. And if i can I will never want another kind. The first one went thru the life of a farmer and tho the cuffs and the front wore out the zipper never gave out. Fits really good my shirts size is XL but this coat is large and fits really good and still have space in the coat I bought another coat with carhartt and got that size xl because that’s what my shirt size is and that’s what the fitment guide said but it was Big so I went size down and it fits perfect

Awesome Coats... I’m a Electrician for about twenty years and these coats always been my go to coats. I’m now ordering on online because I can find my size which is a large. These coats or jackets run a size big, and have great protection from rain, wind, cold, etc. But at certain temperature, like 15, 20 below degrees I’ll where a sweater extra warmth.

The jacket is awesome! I've been wearing it with a layer or two underneath and it's plenty warm for an Indiana winter. It does come stiff and it's a little big as I got a Large Tall (6'3" 215 lbs). Overall it's an awesome jacket and I'm glad I went with Carhartt rather than another off brand.

Hood is a little hard to control (sometimes interferes with rear vision when driving), but works perfectly. I'm hoping that the hood will be more manageable as time progresses. I would recommend this to other people.

Ill tell you what, this jacket doesnt compare to anything else like it. Ive owned it for 3 years so far and it still looks brand new! I live in mid-west michigan. I work and wear this jacket daily. Im 5'11 and 145 lbs and own a large. Its a little on the bigger side, but length and height are great! I can go snowblow the driveway with just a longsleeve shirt under this jacket in 20 and below and it keeps me warm and dry no doubt. Even visiting family in marquette where the winters are horrible, this jacket was made for it no doubt. I have the helmets to hardhats edition in black and i absolutly love it. Its good to know that a popular brand still makes real quality stuff. Youre not just paying for the name. This jacket is worth every penny and will last you a very long time. I highly recommend it to anybody

Definitely bulky and stiff. If you are slim it puffs out on the stomach. Typical Mens Large and always order Medium in Carhartt because everything runs as if it's for larger than average people. Quality is awesome per usual but wish it would sit nicer.

This is my 2nd J140 flannel coat, first lasted 10yrs. Wore a large tall that was a little big and changed to the medium tall which fits much better. Try them on to make sure of size if at all possible. If you want the ultimate warmth go with Yukon extreme. Great jacket for Nebraska winters.

Since the Detroit has been ruined with that tail in the back, I finally had to settle on a jacket with a hood. Love this coat. Medium is a full large in any other brand, but I'm used to that. The hood is like a useless appendage though, and I wish it were removable or replaced with a nice collar. I know that everyone loves the monk look, and people everywhere wear a sack over their head even in the summertime, but it's not for me. It's definitely warmer, and the warmth is perfect for west of the cascades Oregon, but it's not uncomfortably hot at all. Very nice.

Overall great well built jacket. If you work outside in cold weather it is perfect. Just beware, I am 5’9 240 pounds and I am usually a 2XL. I ordered a 2XL and the jacket was huge so it runs very big. I ended up downsizing twice and the large fits me perfectly. Would definitely recommend.

Love the jacket! It keeps you warm and keeps the wind out too. They really last forever, last one lasted twenty years before I needed another. The only one thing that I didn’t like was the color, coffee. My last one was a darker brown, but not as dark as the other choice now. I like the Carhartt brown too.

I bought this jacket for my husband for work. He leaves really early and usually it’s very cold out, I wanted him to have something he could wear that would keep him warm. This was perfect! Only down side was that it runs very big. He’s usually an xl and this was way to big. It’ was actually funny to see him in it being so big on him. We’ve returned it and now waiting for the refund to get the correct size. I also got him the socks and beanie and he loves it all!

I am a 5'3", 145lb woman. I chose this jacket over the women's options for a few reasons: The elastic cuffs can be pulled up if needed and fit easily over gloves The length - I want something to cover my butt in the cold The pockets - I have a different woman's Carhartt coat and the pockets don't fit my phone well. All the pockets in this coat are huge and roomy and at good locations Overall this is a great coat - extraordinarily warm, roomy, comfortable and easy to move in even when it's crispy and new. I was hesitant to go with medium, which was the smallest size available when I got mine, but I'm happy with it - men's Carhartts tend to be narrow in the hips/bottom, and this easily fits over my hips and doesn't feel restrictive. It is big on me, so if you don't want that look, keep that in mind. But I'm still super happy with it and wouldn't change it.

Very thick and stiff may take awhile to break it in. I ordered large tall and it is plenty big on me. I usually wear XL in all my clothing. Very well built and durable jacket I would recommend .

excellent jacket, quite satisified. had to wash it right away, a little stiff. i think more insulation would be even nicer, but it's a fine coat. (i still have a BIG SMITH coat from 15 years ago, and it's still my warmest coat, though its' ragged in places. a cherished dog and i used to playfight and he messed up the sleeves, so there is two reasons it's my favorite) not to downplay your jacket...it is quite sturdy and looks fantastic.

Very good quality jacket, its warm and has plenty of room through the shoulders and chest, however, this jacket is SHORT. Its made to ride right at your waist line, so if you're a taller person, it will be short on you, you'll want to go with the Tall size.

This is an excellent jacket. I've had it for a couple months now and I am nothing but pleased. Very comfortable, very warm. I work outdoors at night and I can wear this jacket with only a t-shirt underneath and stay warm down to the 30s. Construction feels great, and I haven't had any rain get in yet. It does run wide so size down and get the tall. I'm normally a 3xl and the 2xl tall fits like a glove. The cuffs are great for keeping out wind, and I especially love the lined hood. My only complaint is that if you're wearing gloves with Velcro cuffs, the cuffs on the jacket will hook to the Velcro and itll pull out the fabric on the cuffs.

This is the second Carhartt my BF has had. His first one he has had for almost 15 years, but he has outgrown it. I got him this new one for his birthday in the next size up and it fits perfectly. It is pretty stiff right now, but it will break in. He says it is the best coat and he wouldn't have a different brand.

For as long as I can remember it seemed my father bought me one every year, in September right before school. It was always special, I’d get this, a matching hat & a pair of boots. One year he even bought me a knife. I never liked the design of this particular jacket but I will say I never went cold. I've had this jacket for about 3 years now and it's seen use on the farm and in my job as a concrete pump operator. We're out in pretty much any conditions, it seems. I'm known by my buddies to be extremely hard on most of my clothes and gear. This jacket has held up very well in rain, snow, cold, and my least favorite- wind. On days when the wind is blowing 30 mph and the wind chill is a bitter cold, I know I'll be warm with this jacket and a Carhartt hoodie underneath. I've convinced a few of my buddies these were worth the money just by letting them try it out for 10 or 15 minutes on cold days. When this one wears out, I'll buy the exact same one without thinking twice.

I live in Oregon...lots of rain and cold...I am 50 and have done construction a good part of my life. This is the best coat I have ever owned. Roomy, high quality, can't say enough great things about it. I hope you make them for many years to come, so I can buy another one when the times come.

The fourth one I have owned! Throughly recommend the jacket. Generally, I use it 0-40F, very warm. Easy to get on and off and you can wear layers underneath. The construction and material are tough. Good in heavy rain, but you will have to dry it out; not waterproof.

Great coat but I wish I would’ve stuck to my original sizing (xl). I was steered away from the reviews saying they run big. I’m 6’1”, 220lbs. so I got a Large Tall. It’s a bulky coat in the arms but fits fine across the shoulders. My only concern is that it’s a touch short. Just enough to bother me. The coat is stiff, so it’s going to take some wearing in. Everything else about it is great. Super warm and wind proof. Zipper is a little tough to work but I’m hoping that changes after some uses. Would recommend 100%. Stick to your size (if you’re my size) and disregard the reviews.

In the winter season being a window installer is rough, with the cool breeze blowing against you it was a struggle to find a jacket that kept me warm without the bulk that was also durable. This Carhartt jacket is exactly that. Warm and Durable. I have had mine for 5 years and aside from caulking on the sleeve you wouldn’t be able to tell.

This is by far the best jacket I have ever owned! It's extremely durable and comfortable to wear. Sizes do run a little big. Originally it was my everyday jacket for years but once it started getting a little ratty it became my work on the tractor/around the property jacket. It's close to 10 years old now of wear every winter and there are holes in the pockets and areas of high wear but I don't want to give it up yet!

Love the jacket! It is stiff but relaxes a bit once the vinegar soak is done. The hood hits the back of my head a bit more that I wish. This is especially interesting when I wear a Carhartt hat with Velcro. A lot of “rip-rip”.

The ribbing on the sleeves retract back into the facket when wearing. This needs to stay out and around the wrist. Zipper catches when zipping up or down. Otherwise great jackets.

These are great classic jackets. This is much warmer than an older one I had with the scratchy, thermal, long john material. It's comfortable but does ride up some when reaching away from the body.

Dealing with the polar vortex in Wisconsin presently and this jacket will keep you warm in even extreme conditions. Excellent at resisting the wind too. The dood not only keeps head warm but is designed to keep neck toasty also.

I got this exact same jacket for the winter of 2014, and four years later it remains my favorite coat for the cold months here in Michigan. It is strong and durable, and still looks like I got it yesterday. I have worn it over gym shorts and a t-shirt when it was -20 degrees outside and it kept me toasty. Definitely get yourself one if you work outside in the colder months a lot. You won't regret it!

The only thing that I have a problem with on this jacket is the hood and how stiff it is. When im not trying to wear the hood its to stiff to stay down so i basically just have to wear it. But all in all a great warm coat.

Really needed a good coat/jacket. So far I am very satisfied. Very warm, thick, well made. Only complaints are the cuffs on the sleeves always want to tuck inside, instead of staying out. And that it is very stiff. Guess I just need to break it in more, considering I haven't had it long. Any tips on how to make it less stiff??

I was told it would've been 7-10 days to get it, but it arrived in 2. While it is stiff for the first few times you wear it, if you wash it a time or two, it begins to work in better. 10/10 would recommend!

Typically great Carhart quality....... very warm and very durable. The only negative comment I can make is in regards to the attached hood. It does not lay flat against your back when not wearing it. Continuously poking you in the back of the head. The hood should be less bulky or removeable. Other than that its a great winter coat.

Absolutely beautiful, but way too big. We got a 3X because my son usually wears 2x, but we wanted room for a layer or 2. 2X would have been fine. Anyway, the people at the Huntington store were pleasant and helpful, and we returned it for a refund (will be credited back to my card). We purchased a quilted jacket instead, and we are very happy with it. My advice is go true to size with this style. Its liberally cut.

I really like this coat; it is my second one. I was delighted to find one that was identical to the one I still have, with a new zipper slide. Sleeves a little frayed, now my tinker coat. Plowing snow for nine years, in and out of truck, never cold or wet. Great price for the quality and a big one for me, "Made in USA" For me it has always been a sense of pride to wear Carhartt gear.

It's a larger fit, which makes it great if you like to wear added layers for extra warmth. You won't need extra layers unless you're in extreme cold because it is plenty warm. It's extremely comfortable for all day wear and is very resilient to wear and tears. I've been working in heavy rainfall off and on for an hour or so at a time and the outside of the jacket would be soaked but I never once felt it on the inside. Definitely a worth while investment.

I wear a 3XLT. I put the jacket on when I received it and it was terribly uncomfortable as the outer surface was as if it were heavily starched. The hood practically stood straight up. It is going back; very disappointed.

Normally im a medium in clothes but in Carhartt im a small with extra space left over. The jacket lives true to wind resistant and water repellant. Only issue is that the arms fit normal but the jacket length is way too short. With any movement the jacket rides up even more and pulls my phone holster off my belt. It feels like a crop top for men.

This coat tends to run large in size, so benign of large size myself, I went with X Large and found I could fit all my underlying garments, sweater, hoodie, etc easily within its ampleness. Love the look and fit of this jacket. The only issue I have is how stiff the zipper is to use. Hoping the more I use the zipper, the easier it will get to use.

I definitely would’ve been fine buying a smaller size, so just remember it says “loose fit” for a reason. But I’d rather have it too big than too small, so no worries. It’s SO comfortable. In the winter wind, it feels like a shield that just prevents anything cold from hitting you. 10/10 new favorite winter item!

This is my husband's fourth one he absolutely love's them. He wears them to shreds practically before buying a new one. His last one is now his around the knock around yard jacket. The coat I just purchased was to replace my old Carhart coat that was close to 20 years old. It was showing it’s age, fading and wear on the cuffs of the sleeves and such. Otherwise it held up very well. I would highly recommend Carhart products for longevity and comfort. A true bargain

It was a gift for my boyfriend who works outside all day. He loves it and it looks great on! You may want to check the sizes though to be sure of the fit. I got a large because he wears lots of layers and it worked great. He is kind of thin- seems to enjoy just a bit large.

My husband loves his jacket, the only reason we gave it 4 stars is because the hood is too stiff and gets in the way! We tried ordering a jacket without the hood, but it was not warm enough! This jacket is perfect for our cold Chicago winters, he just would like this exact jacket without the hood!

I've always work outside and used Carhartt products and the particular Carhartt that is listed in this review has lasted me 8 years. This coat is warm water resistant wind resistant and works very well. The reason why I purchased another one.

I was sad to see Made in the USA is not true. Assembled in the USA, Products Imported. Yet these jackets are worn all the time on Construction projects everywhere in the US. Also the handle on the zipper always breaks, I have had 3 of these jackets and not sure if I will buy a 4th.

Love this jacket. It’s almost too warm for Texas weather but hopefully I’ll get to use it more often. I’m glad I sized down. I’m a medium all the way around with literally every other brand. Had to go with a small which felt weird.

I can’t begin to explain how overly satisfied with this product. Long story short, but, I was in a motorcycle accident last night and this coat stood up to the road when the rest of my clothing didn’t. I would give this 100 stars if I could. Slight damage to my coat, however, no road rash on my upper body due to this!!! Love love love this jacket!!!!

I ordered this jacket and some Bib Coveralls a little on the big side to go over work clothes and to stand up to a Wyoming winter, I got exactly what I wished for. I'm waiting for the first 50 below day to use these products properly, but Carhartt is the best of the best, I have never had any problems with my un-hooded Carhartt jacket, I've had for 5 years.

I’ve had several of these jackets. They last for years except where the sleeve meets the cuffs they seem to wear more than the rest of the coat otherwise very happy

All I can say is this jacket is so stiff and ridged that I'm not wearing it. I have washed it with fabric softener hoping to soften it up but it made no difference. Not happy with it at all

I rated it a 4 star because the elastic ribbed knit around the bottom is NOT tight enough to keep out the cold air, other than that it is a great jacket.

This jacket is warm enough for me. Since I work mostly outside in the elements and due to the company safety standards, I have to wear a lousy bright yellow jacket supplied by the company. The jacket they gave me is not as insulated and warm as the Carhartt. I would give my left arm for Carhartt to make a bright yellow jacket like this one for the masses.
