Someone bought me this duster as a birthday present and it has not failed me once yet. Snow, sleet, rain or just the cold muggy weather like we get this time of year it takes it with ease and it's very comfortable. More than worth the price.

I ordered a Black one last winter and love it so much that I ordered the wool liner for it. I am so happy with it that I just had to get a brown one. The liner will fit either coat! I'm happy with purchase ! I had ordered a Brown one from someone else and was not happy with the quality. Had to send that one back. WON'T MAKE THAT MISTAKE AGAIN. The dusters I got from Sheplers have both quality and a great price. There truly is a difference.

I wasn't sure about purchasing this duster online without being able to try it on first, but I am very happy with it. It fits great, just a little smaller than I had thought it would be. My husband is a "Johnny Cash" tribute artist and he's always wanted a coat like this because Johnny wears one on one of his album/CD covers. He's very tall 6'3" and has very long arms to match. I was worried that anything I could find on the internet would either not be long enough or have arms that are too short. This duster fits him just right. The sleeves and the length are perfect! I bought this for him as a gift and he was very, very happy when he opened the box and saw what was inside. I'm glad I bought it for him and I highly recommend this one for it's value and quality.

Our older son had been looking for a duster for some time and had not found one that he liked for a price that he was willing to pay. When he mentioned this to us, we decided it would be a good thing to buy him for Christmas. So we searched the internet and found this one at Sheplers. After we read the reviews, we decided to buy this one. He was delighted when he opened this gift. Not only did he open the package, he wore the coat home!!! It fits him perfectly. Sizing is good, length is perfect. And it looks really good on him. He's told us it is very comfortable. Haven't checked off "durable" on the Pros section; we'll have to see how well it wears, but it looks like it will last a long time.

I wanted something to keep me warmer on winter rides. I wear a jacket underneath and the shell of the duster keeps me warm and comfortable without any binding feeling that often comes with having several layers on in the winter.

Purchased this item as a gift for my father. His old duster was worn out. He had been 'eye-balling' this same one at the local western store. I ordered one size larger so he could wear layers underneath. He rides for cattle and cheap, low quality gear just doesn't last. This item on the other hand is a high quality duster. My wife purchased this coat for me. When it arrived I was surprised at the quality construction and material of the coat. I bought this 3 weeks ago and I normally take an extra large but after reading the reviews decided to buy the large!! It fits nicely so the sizes run larger than normal!! It is great in the rain but I I am 5ft 8in tall and the bottom of the coat is 6 inches off the ground with my boots on!! They should have a size and add short medium or tall!! I also bought the hat for this and it's great!!

Very warm and comfortable - sleeves a little long. The liner is not needed unless you are in sub-freezing temps for a long period. Very good overall product. Recommended to friend who bought one also.

This is a perfect coat for these upper New York winter storms. It keeps me perfectly dry and warm. The fit is perfect. I have had many comments on how great the coat looks. I cannot believe the price...what a deal! I haven't had a chance to wear it while riding, but I anticipate, given the cut and snaps, it will be just perfect astride my steed. The quality of the material and the strength of the snaps is the best. I highly recommend this coat for anyone wanting to keep dry and look their best while riding or just tooling around.

I really went out on a limb when I chose as a Christmas gift, but was hopeful that our Grandson would like it as much as I did, and I was RIGHT! He LOVED it! He told us that he had wished that he had it when elk hunting in Colorado in October, as he FROZE, and was wet from the rain/snow, but VOWED to wear it hunting next year! What was even better was the fact that you had size XXSmall, which is PERFECT for our "in between" size Grandson, that makes it tough to find, but when looking for something that costs a bit more than you normally spend, it HAS TO FIT! and this did!

At first I thought the sleeves might be too long, but they really are just right when you consider that you will be wearing winter clothing underneath that adds bulk. Great coat. Extremely happy with the purchase. Several have asked where I bought it.

Looked for one of this for a long time finally found one .Thank you Sheplers for a good product and a great price. FYI .I'm 6'2 and 260 lbs the XXL duster fit perfectly just right for my big shoulders a little to big around the stomach but i don't mind. Gives me room to were some thing underneath when needed for the frosty days. Your customer service is one of the best very helpful knowledgeable and super nice. It was a pleasure doing businesses and defiantly will be coming back!

When you get it it'll be oily to the touch. Make sure to hang it up to evaporate a little if you don't need to use it right away. I use it in the rain and snow of north Colorado and love this thing. Everything on it is functional, no fluff. I got the brown. It'll lighten up nicely with use. The matierial is durable, the buttons, the stitching, the cape keeps you warm. The draw strings give it a taylored look when u don't need to layer. Plenty of room in there if you do. The leg straps snap to the flap and work great. The slit in the back give you room to walk and move. The length looks good, about upper calf. Good collar to block high winds. I absolutely love it. Looks great!!! I use a sized smaller wool insert to hug me better. Seems to work welll. As for sizing, if you need to layer warm clothes beneath it get your normal size. If it's only for rain and looks I'd say you'd be safe going a size down if you want a tighter fit. I'm 5'10" at 185 and the large with medium wool insert fits perfect with room for warm clothes. I love it and stay super warm and dry when using it.

This is my second time to purchase this jacket. I purchased it for my son several years ago for Christmas and it has been instrumental working in Northern California with the rainy weather herding sheep, but also in Nevada and Idaho with his job with cattle. He had a fire in the fall of 2024 and lost everything and really missed having his jacket, I was so happy to find that you still carried it. A mom's heart is warm when she receives a text from the hills during a down fall of rain this winter thanking her so much for replacing this important part of his job apparel. So my review is durable, long lasting and a must have for any job out on the range with a herd of animals and a moms heart wanting her son to stay warm and dry.

I had an Outback oilskin duster with a fleece liner years ago and it was warm and weatherproof. After 20 years, it was time for a new one. I have had it a month and am happy to report it is as warm, comfortable, wind-proof, and water-proof as my old one. For foul weather, it can't be beat.

I bought one of these in Gatlinburg at a leather shop for approx $185. I wore it all week end when the temps never got over freezing. Extremely warm, comfortable jacket that not only looks good, but is functional and does the job. It is well made and durable as well. I'm five foot six slim built. The 42 or medium is a little bit big but fits good. I use it in the Texas winter as a Petroleum tanker driver. It keeps me dry and warm in the harsh rain. I wear it over my work clothes. It moves with me. It breathes. I'm very satisfied. Get one. You won't be sorry.

So far, everything is great. The one day since I got the Duster that it rained, I made an excuse to go and try it out. It worked wonderfully !! Looks great, feels great, it dried in no time when I got home and hung it up. I'm 5'9, I was 193ish lbs and I got the XL. The sleeves are a tad long,but, not an issue. If you're thinking about getting an amazing duster, this is it !!

I received it in a small box, so I was skeptical of how this was going to look coming from such a small box.. when I opened it up, it was folded very neatly and inside a plastic bag. After getting it completely opened and tried on, found out it swallowed me, it was huge. I am female, ordered a large thinking it would fit good over winter sweaters, heavier shirts.. It was even too big for that, my fiance' tried it on, he normally wears a 2XL tall in shirts.. this fit him perfectly, he loved it, didn't like the black, he would have ordered brown, but he was a little worried about wearing it over heavier shirts in the winter, otherwise he could snap it closed over a thin shirt. But we do know he would wear a XL great! I am returning the black one and maybe get a brown XL for him and a medium for me. I am 5'8" and normally wear a L in a mans shirt.. So I hope this helps those wondering about the sizing, as I couldn't really see any info on that when I was looking at the reviews for myself. Other than the sizing, it is a beautiful coat, much softer than I thought it would be. I would definitely recommend it to anyone, just make sure you are sure about the size you order.

Just received my duster a few weeks ago. I wear it every day. It's toasty warm with and without the wool liner. One of my best investments of the year. Besides that, I get lots of compliments from strangers and not only that, I find myself getting better service in stores. People are treating me differently, smiling at me more and just coming right out and starting conversations with me. That duster is a people magnet! Go figure! LOL

Initial Order had damage.Fast replacement shipped quickly. Happy with the turn around and free return postage. Product is well made. Only coat I found to be water proof. Got to use it in cold, rainy windblown weather while feeding horses. Kept me dry and most of all warm. This is made for working and not formal ware. Will pick up dirt but rinses of easy with the rain. Initial impression is it feels clammy. Get used to it as this is gonna keep you dry and warm. You'll love it. Definitely will recommend this product and Sheplers service.

My grandson wears this coat everyday. He is a big boy 6' tall, 50"chest, 46" waist, 56" hip. I bought the 2X and it fits him great. He needed a winter coat to use for school and going out. The coat was perfect when it arrived. My son wore it in the blizzard while snow blowing and it kept him warm and dry, but the coat was wet on the outside. We hung it up to dry and it shrunk so badly it's now much too small. The sleeves shrunk a full three inches! We're returning it for larger size to account for shrinkage.

This coat was requested and bought for a birthday present to replace a similar coat. He is very pleased with the sizing which is what was stated on the sizing chart. He plans on many seasons of dry dog walking and camping. A medium weight sweater fits easily under the coat.

I read many of the reviews prior to ordering and had looked for several years before purchasing. I have to admit, when it arrived I thought I was disappointed, I wanted something I could ride my Harley in with more protection plus something I could wear over my suit for church. Because I had read about size and the recommendation to order the size you require and not a size larger, that is what I did. Upon arrival, the appearance seemed a little small and appeared too light weight for what I was looking for, but I hung it up until I could look a little closer. So glad I did! The next day we had a cold, north wind blowing here in the Texas panhandle so I decided to try it out Sunday evening. Was I ever pleased. Not only was it heavy enough to block the wind, with the help of the quality materials used, but it fit comfortably over my suit with no problems! Had I ordered a size larger, it would have been too big! Bottom line is it was perfect! I could not have picked out a better product, both to fill my needs and to fill what I was wanting.

This is the best coat there is for keeping out wind and rain. Maybe buy one size larger than you wear if you want more comfort in the saddle. I don’t ride any more, but I still like being able to wear bulky layers under the coat.

This will get alot more use when I am horseback riding this fall during our Oregon rains and have been on a hot/dusty cattle drive already using it. This duster feels indestructable, hoses off well when it gets dusty/dirty, and is cut generously. (Makes it easy to get in and out of the saddle.)

It's not exactly a work-coat, but is definately tough enough for it. Has silk lined sleeves which can get sticky if you start to sweat. It's really warm and heavy, which is what I like. Overall, it's worth every penny.

I wore this to work during a recent cold spell with near zero wind chills. The flaps were great at keeping the wind off my legs. One minor inconvenience, the light cotton liner is not sewed along the bottom causing it to hang up in the back requiring some contortionist like moves to free it. I also bought the shorter version of the same coat. The liner in it is sewn down with a nice Outback Trading label, looks nice works nice. A phone rep said the long coat was as it was to avoid bunching up. Seems like it does that worse now. If you've got the room to do a sweeping motion as you put it on, it works better. Still a great coat, but the hem issue cost one star. Oh, seems to be a bit of a size difference between the long and short version. I'm 6'1" 180; large fits great in the long coat, it's a bit sloppy in the shorter one.

I just recently purchased this Long Oilskin Duster. This is my second one. My first Duster that I bought was around 1982 and I still do have it but it has lost some of its rain protection. I was viewing products here and came across the coat. I ordered it right away. It's not only a great coat to keep the rain off, it's a great looking coat and has always received comments to that fact. I'm extremely impressed with my Outback duster i purchased from Sheplers except for one thing.....the leg straps dont even come close to fitting. I grabbed a 2XL because of my shoulder width but my legs aren't chubby or anything. Still bugging me. The duster is amazing though, and it came so incredibly quick even though i'm in another country. That was impressive.

I have been shopping for one of these for a long while. Wanted something strong, capable of resisting rain and snow, long enough to cover my pants but give me freedom of movement. This fits the bill, and looks great too. I have two hounds who like a romp in the rain, and this coat gives me what I want in rain gear. I was a little concerned with some comments about sizing, especially since I'm built close to the ground, but this one fit just right -- and I didn't encounter any of the sleeve length issues, or the tight fit across the shoulders that confronted me in some stores in which I tried on similar products. I'm pretty "medium" in build. This product is just right for me, my tastes and my needs. Thanks, Sheplers.

While at the state fair, we passed coats of this style. My boyfriend said, "I've always wanted one of those coats." I remembered this at Christmas time. I read the reviews and decided to go ahead and order this coat. I didn't open it up when it came -- I just wrapped the box. I was delighted when my boyfriend opened it up and I saw the quality. It fit him perfectly and he was so happy! He told me it is by far one of the best gifts he has ever received! We travelled over the holiday and he took it along to model it for his family! Our 40 something son lives in a community in New England and does not own a car. He walks to the Post Office, Bank, Grocery Shopping and all. If it rains or snows and even if it's just cold, his other outerwear couldn't hold up to his needs. He is tall and wears a backpack when he shops. He also has a problem with raincoats not breathing and too stiff to wear (nor are they long to protect his legs from the elements). We sent him this Duster a little early for Christmas and we have never heard him so excited about his Christmas gift since he was a little boy. The look has his friends calling him "Clint" (Eastwood) - the fit, the look, the quality are impressive. He mostly liked the functionality; the snaps, the pockets (inside as well), the adjustable collar, the cape helps protect his backpack from the rain, and he laughed when he realized the leg snapper capability would work in deep snow rather than trying to walk through with a long coat. He was so impressed, we found him a matching hood with a visor. He was actually so happy that he was glad it rained that day so he could try his new rain gear It works. And better yet, he used to wear a quilted jacket under his coat just to keep warm. He's quite certain that a simple hooded sweatshirt would suffice if it got really cold out. The wind resistance is outstanding. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to give our son a Christmas gift that keeps on giving. I got the idea to check into Shepler's after the resurgence of Westerns and the trailers for them on TV. I used to shop at Shepler's myself when I visited my parents in Vegas. Even as a native born New Yorker, the styles and quality were always great. Happy Holdays - the great service and fast delivery were the icing on the cake. g

Would buy again. Got a good 20$ knocked off the price well worth the buy. It's kinda heavy which is a good thing for me. Only thing I wish it had was a hood included, I see it has a spot to attach one by looks of it. It has one inside zip pocket and two button up pockets on the outside. It definitely keeps you warm. So wear a lighter layer under it cause it cooks you up quick.

I moved to Canada 11 years ago, on one of my first trips back to Wichita I took my husband to see Sheplers ( and stock up of course on all my favorite jeans). We got him one of these dusters. That coat lasted a good ten years with very heavy use. I replaced it with a new one for his Valentines Day gift and expect this one to last another ten :) WONDEFUL product ... you will not be disappointed.

I bought this duster after spending last winter cold and wet in ordinary outergear. I am an average sized woman and I bought a size small. It fits me very well. The sleeves are a bit long but I expected that. I also bought the wool button-in liner (elsewhere), which makes this duster not only very warm but stylish too. I have to wrestle with it a bit with the liner in to get my arms through the armholes, since it only buttons in along the edges, but that is a minor inconvenience. It is heavy but since I stayed toasty warm and dry yesterday in 34 degree wet and windy weather, I'm not complaining.

This is the 2nd coat like this for me in 20 years. I would not own anything else for the weather we have up North, a very warm coat. If you live where it's cold you need one of these.

My son is as far from a cowboy as possible, yet this coat was perfect to meet his need for a raincoat on campus. While waiting for the shuttlebus, a slicker and umbrella protects the upper body, while the rain sheets down the jacket and drenches his jeans. Anything longer, in a reasonable price range for a college kid would make him look like a crossing guard or cop. Then I discovered the Duster! It is a great value, very well made, roomy enough to add a sweatshirt on chilly days, a great windbreaker, and best of all, it absorbs some of the rain and the runoff is shin length, not across the thighs. He is 5'10 and skinny, so I thought the Medium might be too big. It fits perfectly. Best of all, he loves the look and has several classmates ask where he got such a "cool coat". I am very happy with this purchase.

This coat is not only very "authentic" in style but makes me want to go buy a horse now :) !! I love these coats when it's cold, raining and especially when it's windy. There is NOTHING better for those weather conditions. They worked back in the late 1800's and still work wonderfully now. I love 'em

I haven't had it out in the rain yet, but it does appear to be made, and made well, with oilskin. The material is substantial and the construction high quality which translates to a coat that will last a very long time. I'm 6'1" and wear a 44R and the large fits me pretty well. Plenty of room in the shoulders and chest and comes down to about mid calf.

This was a surprise gift to my husband so I was a little unsure of the sizing. When I first saw it, I thought it would be too large through the shoulders. He tried it on immediately and it was true to fit. Very nice quality and features.

This Duster makes a great rain coat, although it is a little bulky to wear while driving my car it doesn't make it impossible.

I bought this to use as an overcoat for cooler weather trail riding because the design is very rider friendly. I was not disappointed, the coat is very nice and looks to be high quality. I haven't used it enough to speak to long term durability, but in looking at the other reviews I have high expectations. And it was a very good price as well.

This is my second Drover coat. My first was black. This one is brown. When I bought the first, it was waterproof, but, there was a lot less Duckback Oil on it. The new coat was so oily, I had to use a damp cloth and remove the excess oil. I tried drying it naturally and it just had way too much Duckback Oil on it. Once I cleaned off the excess oil, I could wear the coat and it now exceeds every expectation. It is perfectly waterproof but no longer stains the seats on my vehicle and gets oil on my jeans.
