After steaming it with a teakettle and wearing it til it dried, the fit was perfect. I trimmed the brim to a little over 3.5 inches and sanded it; worked great. The felt is too stiff for my taste and only fits in one position on the head. There is no accommodation for a chin strap so it apparently is not intended for wind. I'm hoping it is a good rain and sun hat, but I suspect its main purpose is to look cowboy cool in a bar.

Felt Hats - Keep your hats dust free. We recommend a soft bristle brush for cleaning felt hats. Always brush with the nap in a counter clockwise motion. Ordinary dust marks and smudges may be removed with a hat cleaning sponge. To store your hat, we recommend keeping it in a hat box. Always place the hat upside down on its crown to avoid affecting the shape of the brim. Felt hats were not intended to be worn in the rain. However, if a hat does get wet, flip the sweatband outward and set the hat upside down on its crown to allow it to dry naturally.
