"X" Explanation
Ever wonder what the "X' in the name of each Stetson cowboy hat means? Stetson created the X system that is now used industry-wide for cowboy hats. The number of Xs determines the approximate quality of the cowboy hat. A higher number of Xs indicates a higher quality of cowboy hat. The number of Xs for a fur felt hat are determined by the percentages of fur used in making the cowboy hat. A low X rating doesn't indicate a poor quality of fur cowboy hat, just a lower fur blend. Size Info
Ordering the correct Stetson cowboy hat size will make a big difference in the comfort of your cowboy hat. A western hat should sit straight and rest comfortably (not tight) around your head. To determine your cowboy hat size, wrap a cloth tape measure around your head about 1/2" above your ears, and note the length. Convert that length to a hat size using our Hat Size Chart shown on the cowboy hat product page. If you are between two western hat sizes, choose the bigger size hat. A too-small cowboy hat will pinch and not sit correctly on your head. You can always pad the sweatband of a cowboy hat that is slightly too big in order to get a better fit.
