How do I get the correct size in a straw hat?

How in the world do I measure for a straw hat? I measured for a leather one back in the winter (when I had hair before chemo) and now it is too large. It is luckily heavy enough to stay on my head if it is not too windy. How do I get the correct size in this straw hat???? Thanks
