Rated 5 out of 5 by I wanted one of these for a long time Great item, works well with the Outback Trading Co. Long Oilskin Duster. Well built, nice material, fits good. Glad I bought it. April 18, 2013

Rated 5 out of 5 by Kodiak Oilskin Hat A good friend has worn this hat regularly and I finally decided I would need one to protect my head from the sun while looking stylish. Shipping was prompt and the fit is perfect. A fine product, all in all. November 28, 2012
Rated 1 out of 5 by Which hat did I purchase? After an extensive search, I found the exact hat I was looking for, or so I thought. I ordered the "brown" version, assuming that-- of the two hats depicted in the ad-- it would be the obviously brown hat as opposed to the very dark, presumably black hat. What arrived was the dark hat. Well, almost. What arrived was a dark hat that was made of oilskin, but had a completely different crown--more a formed and rolled western crown than an outback/fedora style. I rechecked the ad, thinking I'd made a mistake. The only colors listed were black and brown. Well, obviously the light brown hat wasn't black, was it? I returned the hat for exchange, citing the reasons. Then I got a very nice email back from Shepler's stating that all of the other hats in inventory were exactly the same as what had been sent to me. I would very much like to review the hats in the ad, but they no longer seem to be available, and anybody contemplating purchase should know that. September 9, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by great hat I put the hat on.My wife looked at me and said "The Good The Bad and The Ugly- Lee Van Cleef. That alone was worth the price of the hat.Thank you for such a good buy. August 18, 2012
Rated 4 out of 5 by Great hat.... I'm a dog walker in San Francisco and see all types of weather [except snow] and this hat performs very well. Good in high wind/rain the 'adventure straps' are kind of a cheap shoe string but work well keeping the hat on your head. The brim is very shapeable and so can be tweaked to fit your personal preferences. Overall a good buy, runs a little big , will have to buy a size down when i get a hair cut! July 18, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Oilskin Hat I received this hat super fast after placing my order. It came in perfect condition. I will be wearing it this summer as I am going to be in the back woods a lot. It will be a valuable asset, I am sure. July 3, 2012
Rated 5 out of 5 by Very very nice These hats are sized a little big. I wear a large in other hats but had to return the large in this one. The medium fits snug but right. I also ordered the reproofing cream. This hat is perfect for the rainy cold pacific NW. It keeps the rain off your face and neck with style. I encourage others to buy one as well, but I know they won't. They'll continue to wear stupid ball caps which allow the rain down the back of your coat, in your ears, the sun to burn your neck, and the rain to soak through to your head. Oh well. Rated 4 out of 5 by good for the price good hat for the money, i bought this hat to use as a beater in bad weather. suits my needs. stampeed string is not leather like discription says. cheesey shoe string material with a plastic keeper. cant expect to much in this price range. good for the money. Is this hat "crushable"?

I'm looking for a hat that I can keep in my saddle bag (Harley, not horse :)). I keep my head shaved and need to wear something when I remove my helmet. I love my leather outback hat in the yard, but its a little heavy and hot in the summer. I usually keep a ball cap on the bike, but I'd like something with a little more protection like this one.

Thanks

Tim

ummers; although we do get our fair share of rain. We have little snow usually. I want to wear the hat year-round indoors and outdoors. My time spent in the rain will be minimal--probably walking from house to car/store to car/car to work mostly. I have 2 toddler grandchildren who will probably be grabbing at the hat as I wear it. I like the outback style hat and want good water resistance. Would I be better served to get this hat or a crushable felt outback hat?

Answer:
LtMac,
Both hats are a great choice. The Kodiak is great for weather protection. We suggest Duck Back reproofing cream for taking care of the hat. I will point out that some of the crushable felt outback hats feature a build in sweat band. That may be something to consider.
