Ordered this hat-jack for my husband mainly because his new hat was a little snug and past reviews indicated it was a good product for stretching. Have used it now for several weeks and it has certainly made the hat more comfortable although it does seem to have made the shape more round than oval. I have not used the jack with steam yet as suggested in the directions but believe it may not be necessary. A simple but effective tool and one l would recommend. Certainly good for retaining shape.

This is a low cost hat stretcher/ shape retainer. It shows. The jack screw isn't centered and isn't squarely aligned, being off centered front to back. Long oval? Not so much. I cut wood from the ends of these crescent shaped pieces so as to not widen my hat while maintaing the overall size.
I also added felt to make contact with my leather head band. I suggest spend 3 times the money on a higher quality retainer. Or, plan on modifying to better fit your hat.

I was highly pleased with the Hat Jack since the hat was a 'tad' to small for me. I used the Hat Jack overnight and the problem was solved. Now whenever I store my hat I use the Hat Jack as a precaution to shrinkage.

As with everything I have ordered from Sheplers...I got great service, quick processing, and prompt delivery. Another appealing aspect of Shepler's is that they allow one to make informed decisions by giving detailed product descriptions. As for the Hat Jack...well crafted, great product, made of sturdy construction, a very simple, but effective item for all of us who own cowboy hats. Thanks Shepler's. One of my felt hats had a bulging ridge around the base of the sweat band, as if the stitching had caused it to poof out a bit. Within minutes of wearing the hat my brow had an uncomfortable crease in it . That line in my forehead would last over an hour. The hat jack stretches the size a might, & the beveled wood frame of the jack flattens the slight bulge of the bottom of the sweatband. My hat now fits snug & comfortable as it should.
