Answer:
You mean the boot *shaft*? I have a pair of Ariat boots, 2 pair of Justin, I pr. Tony lama, 2pr. Corral boots, and 1 pair each of Durango and Laredo, which does not cover all brands, but then I have also tried on a few other kinds, and I have not noticed a appreciable difference in the boot shaft circumference between any of the brands I have, or have tried. The shaft heights are apt to vary markedly, however. If you are concerned that the shafts of western boots will be too roomy for your calves, try on any pair to get a general idea. If you don't think they look nice, then maybe a western style boot is just not for you, and you might try a boot wit a snugger shaft. I would not be very concerned personally, though. I think too-large calves are more of an issue with overall appearance. Those peacock print boots are really dynamite looking. and not at all run-of-the-mill. And how often can you say that about most non-western boots?
