Once on the boots are comfortable. The challenge is getting them on as the shaft seems to be smaller than most making it very hard to get your foot beyond the shaft into the boot. At this point I am left with trying to have the shaft stretched if possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Royer Best cowboy boot I have ever worn
I am 62 and have been wearing cowboy boots all my life. I just ordered a new pair of Ariats. These Stockman Cowboy Boots, I can assure you, are accurately sized (make certain you are ordering using the correct unit--different countries, different sizes). My pair is seven years old and I have worn them in the deserts of California, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. I brought them with me to Korea and wore them throughout last year's terrible winter. I cannot say enough about the Dura Sole. Primarily, I use these boots for walking. But I got the surprise of my life to discover that they are more comfortable than my expenseive Nike hiking boots in the mountains. I wore them all day long on a mountain hike and my feet were in far better shape than they would have been with the Nike's: I had NO SORENESS at all. Coming down from the mountain I had an ankle roll-over and my boot definitely save me from a bad sprain. I was soooo grateful I was not wearing the little anklet Nike booties. I take a nightly walk for several kilometers both on and off pavement and always prefer these super comfortable boots.
I have gone on so long about these that I sound like I own stock in this company. I do not. And I was reluctant, years ago when I bought these, to buy something not made in America. I do buy Made in USA products every chance I get. However, my feet have final say so and I just cannot say enough good things about these boots. The dura sole will last forever without a re-heal or re-soul. Mine have never had either and I've logged thousands of miles on them in seven years. Not only that but they are warm in winter, very water resistant, and of all the type of sole material I have experienced, the rubber of the dura sole is the safest for walking in urban ice and snow fields. These are magnificent winter boots that will keep your entire foot and ankles and lower legs dry and warm.
Regarding sizes: with many shoes, due to chintziness on the part of the manufacturer trying to cut corners, I have had to order size 11 to get a real size 10 1/2 . Do not do this with Ariat. They have got it right and a 10 1/2 IS a 10 1/2!!
You will not be disappointed with these boots. One more thing, my boots (seven years ago) were distressed leather, an option not available now. But this full-grain cowhide is good, so fear not. Distressed leather never looks that good because it is not polishable.
